Pastor Shot

In the scriptures we read, "But know this, in the last days perilous times will come." 2 Timothy 3:!

As I believe we are living in the "last days" spoken of in the Bible, it was no great shock to learn that a pastor was shot in the First Baptist Church of Maryville, Illinois. However, it does sadden me to hear things of this nature because it shows how much respect the world has lost for the things of God.

The pastor was shot while he was conducting Sunday morning worship services. A gunman entered the sanctuary, spoke briefly to the minister, and then shot him to death. It is unknown whether they knew each other.

Fred Winters is an American citizen who died serving Christ. He has been added to the great number of martyrs who are now in Heaven singing God's praise. There is a special reward for martyrs in heaven. Jesus said in Revelation Chapter 2 verse 10 "Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life."

The people of the First Baptist Church in Maryville, Illinois will be saddened by the loss of their beloved pastor but Fred Winters is promised a crown of life from Jesus Himself. He will be greatly honored in heaven.

Giant Stingray, Topless Cafe, and the Grim Sleeper

Three of the most interesting stories in current hot trends are the capture of a giant 7 ft. long stingray, a topless coffee shop opens in Maine, and the police are on the hunt for a serial killer in Los Angeles dubbed the "Grim Sleeper".

The giant stingray was caught by a 45 year old man named Ian Welch. He caught it with a rod making this giant stingray the largest ever fish caught with a rod. The pregnant stingray was 7 foot long and 7 foot wide with a 10 foot tail. It was caught off the coast of Thailand. Pictures were taken and I believe the stingray was released back into the river.

Hooters is a restaurant chain that features girls with hot pants and halter tops so the diner can experience a "grand view" while he or she enjoys the cuisine. The Grand View Topless Coffee Shop in Vassboro Maine has taken the Hooters experience to a whole new level. Both waiters and waitresses are topless as they bring the customers their orders. The topless cafe has 2 rules for the curiosity seekers:
No One Under 18 Admitted and No Cameras, No Touching, Cash Only.

1985 began a string of murders in Los Angeles California all committed by the same man. The police have dubbed this killer the "Grim Sleeper". Many of the victims were raped before they were killed and all the victims are black. The police believe the "Grim Sleeper" is black but they haven't ruled out that he could be white or of another race.

There were no known murder victims between the years 1988 and 2002. The killer struck again in 2002 killing a 14 year old girl. I suspect that the years of silence between the murders is the reason the killer has been dubbed the "Grim Sleeper". His last known murder occurred in 2007.

Fred is Dead

Sometimes the strangest most bizarre terms show in the current hottest searches. Today, Fred is dead was the hottest phrase being searched for.

There was no common denominator that I could find for the reason Fred is dead had such a sudden surge in interest.

One sight had was selling a red pen holder shaped like a man who was dead - the pen in his gut being the murder weapon. They called the item the Dead Fred pen holder.

There were several lame homemade videos featured at You Tube..all titled Fred Is Dead. One was titled Fred is Not Dead.

I remember very well a song called "Freddie's Dead" by Curtis Mayfield. It was from the soundtrack of the movie "Superfly".

Then there is the movie "Drop Dead Fred" which I don't think I have ever
seen.

We can't forget "Freddy Krueger" who is dead but still haunts people's
dreams.

Applebee's

Eating out at places such as Applebee's doesn't happen very often for me due to the family's debt load. For some people dining out at places such as Applebee's is akin to me eating at McDonald's.

For me eating at Applebee's is dining experience to be savored and enjoyed. I especially enjoy eating there on a Sunday afternoon during pro football season.

I make sure I'm facing the television and not my wife...wouldn't want to miss a big play as I stuff a riblet in my mouth.

It seems no matter where we dine, my wife will always end up ordering chicken of some kind. Thankfully, Applebee's has 6 variations of chicken dinner including the always safe to order chicken fingers.

I like to try a variety of dishes from all the areas of the menu. Here are my 3 favorite items to order at Applebee's.

1. Bourbon Street Steak - The cajun spices make this steak dinner a real winner. My favorite item.

2. Applebee's Riblets - Love BBQ ribs and these are downright delicious and messy. Make sure you have several extra napkins.

3. Appetizer Sampler - A great meal for 2 if you are on a budget. Spinach artichoke dips (I never figured out what an aritchoke is.) Mozzarella sticks, Cheese Quesadillas, and Boneless Buffalo wings offer a variety of flavors for a measly $11.00.

You will need anywhere from $15 to $30 to cover a meal for 2 at one of my favorite eatery's.

I hope you find Applebee's as much to your liking as I do.

Worms In The Brain

When I did the recent search of current hot key words that people were searching for the phrase "Worms in the brain" was high on the list.

I thought to myself that there must have been a case of this reported on the news so everyone watching heard about a man or a woman having worms in the brain and did internet searches to find out more about it. I did the same.

There are several types of parasites that could infect the brain thus being
classified as worms in the brain. Tapeworms and amoebas were the most common types followed by cancerous cells and maggots. Viewing some of the pictures of worms in the brain could give some people nightmares for weeks.

Speaking of nightmares, I remember watching an episode on the old Night Gallery show (hosted by The Twilight Zone's Rod Serling) that dealt with a parasitic worm in the brain.

A minute parasitic worm had somehow gotten into the man's ear. For weeks the man experienced excruciating pain in his head. If I remember correctly, he did visit medical specialists who found the parasite in his brain. They told the patient they couldn't operate without the patient dying. He had to wait until the worm had eaten his way through his brain to exit out the other ear which is what happened.

Obviously, since I still remember that over 30 years later, I found the idea of a parasite eating through my brain horrifying.

Why was there such a surge of internet searches for "worms in the brain"? It seems there was a recent episode of Grey's Anatomy that featured this.

Chuck Berry

Chuck Berry

I was in the 3rd grade when I got my very firt long playing
record album. It was Chuck Berry's 16 Greatest Hits.

This was the year I discovered rock 'n roll and I have been a fan ever
since and now I am in my 50's and still rockin'.

"Sweet Little Sixteen", "Johnny B. Goode" and "Rock and Roll Music" were
probably not the very first rock songs I had ever heard but they are
the first ones I remember.

I must have played Chuch Berry's album every day for about 3 months. My
parents were probably sick and tired of hearing Chuck Berry.

His songs have been covered by many artists because they are great songs.

A couple of years ago my brother drove from Tennessee to St. Louis to
see a 79 yeard old Chuck Berry perform at the House of Blues.

Chuck is in his eighties now and still playing shows which is amazing.
